Identifying, Educating and Empowering Sumner County Leaders
Leadership Sumner is a personal development program designed to motivate participants to develop and enhance their leadership in addressing Sumner County needs and issues.
Leadership Sumner was formed to educate potential and active community leaders about the history, politics and culture of Sumner County. Well over 500 participants have graduated from the program since it began more than 25 years ago.
Target Audience: Youth
Average Size: 20 - 30
An outgrowth of the success of Leadership Sumner is the development of the youth program. Sophomore through senior high school students that are potential community and business leaders are selected in a process similar to the adult program.
Participants in the youth program are identified by their high school’s faculty and administration and are encouraged to apply in early spring. The students travel the county in a chartered bus and visit many business, civic and historic sites, asking questions, sharing insights and discussing what they are observing. This mini-tour is a first-hand experience for these students and serves as an impetus for their continuing commitment to community service.
