Mission

To develop, energize, and activate community leaders in Johns Creek by providing insight into and interaction with city, business, and government executives to affect positive change.

Description

Leadership Johns Creek (LJC) is designed to develop leadership talent in individuals representing the Johns Creek community through a structured series of learning experiences.  The program consists of an evening orientation, one two-day retreat, seven one-day sessions, a class project and a graduation. Meetings and activities are distributed over a ten-month period beginning in September. In addition to leadership training and development, class participants gain insight into business, government, community quality of life, volunteer service and local history.  Graduates of LJC are projected to be the future leaders of Johns Creek, leading civic and business organizations for community action and improvement. Potential participants must be nominated and complete an application process before acceptance into the program.  Because it is both an honor and a privilege to be selected for the Leadership Johns Creek program, the highest degree of commitment is expected of all participants. Tuition fees cover the participants program costs, including the opening overnight retreat, leadership training sessions, and all program day group activities and meals.  Corporate and business sponsors help cover the remaining costs of the program. Student Leadership Johns Creek is a program for emerging leaders in their sophomore and junior years. Students apply in December of their freshman or sophomore years for the two-year program. Applicants are accepted from Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek and Northview high schools. The program is run by an advisory council under the board of directorship of Leadership Johns Creek, a 501c3 non-profit in collaboration with Fulton County Schools. In year one of this two-year leadership program, leadership skills will be developed through a series of structured learning experiences and then utilized in community service projects within Johns Creek. In the second year, students will have a more individualized focus, implementing the skills learned in year one to find leadership opportunities after high school and college. Each year after a competitive application process, a class of approximately 40-45 young adults will be selected from area high schools to begin their 2-year commitment. They will be introduced to a core curriculum of leadership skills including goal setting, project management, team building, governmental process, shadowing skills, portfolio and resume building, and communication skills. Tuition fees cover the participants\\\' program costs, including the team building retreat, leadership training sessions, and all program day group activities and meals.  Corporate and business sponsors help cover the remaining costs of the program.
