Description

FOCUS St. Louis is the region\'s center of influence. It develops and brings together leaders from public, private and civic sectors to build a thriving region. FOCUS offers five leadership development programs.

Programs

Coro Fellows program in Public Affairs

Target Audience: Young Professional
Average Size: Less than 20
Tuition: $3500 - $5000

The Coro™ Women In Leadership (WIL) program is a five-month, part-time training program that provides women the opportunity to refine their personal and professional leadership competencies, learn about the St. Louis community, and connect with other women from diverse backgrounds. Graduates of the program gain improved leadership effectiveness to apply to their personal and professional lives, an enhanced ability to network within the community, and the access to resources to produce results. Structure of the program The program utilizes the following training principles: Emphasis on inquiry and experiential learning Exposes participants public, private, and civic sectors Using the community as a classroom Provides opportunities for participants to assess leadership competencies and develop strategies for improvement Values the critical role of diversity and inclusion in leadership training

Coro Women in Leadership

Average Size: Less than 20
Tuition: $2000 - $2500

Diversity Leadership Fellowship

The Diversity Leadership Fellowship program is committed to the professional development of FOCUS programs alumni and friends who demonstrate leadership potential and a strong drive to positively impact the community in areas of diversity, inclusion and equity. Purpose, goals and outcomes Purpose: · To deepen understanding of diversity and inclusion in all its complexity · To complete a personal diversity assessment of behaviors · To provide tools to lead change in communities and organizations · To build strategies for interrupting racism · To create allies for this work Goal: The goal of the DLF program is to develop a community of leaders who guide their organizations and community in creating a truly inclusive and prosperous community to live, learn, work and play. The DLF curriculum addresses the dimensions of diversity, inclusion and equity in a three-tiered approach of theory, application and experience. The program will help participants develop mindful initiatives and enhance ongoing efforts that support their organization and communities.

Emerging Leaders

Target Audience: Young Professional
Average Size: 20 - 30
Tuition: $500 - $750

The Emerging Leaders program offers a select group of St. Louis’ young and talented the opportunity to receive training to develop leadership and management skills. This program provides participants with an increased sense of engagement in the region, as well as the tools to take an active role as the next generation of St. Louis regional leaders. The Emerging Leaders program is open to young professionals ages 22-35. Emerging Leaders aims to provide young professionals a better understanding of the inner workings of the St. Louis community, an opportunity to develop leadership skills, a chance for personal growth and self-assessment, exposure to volunteer involvements, and a diverse network of peers. As a member of FOCUS St. Louis, program participants get connected to other leadership program alumni and have valuable opportunities to attend FOCUS programs and events.

Experience St. Louis

Target Audience: Executive
Average Size: Less than 20
Tuition: $750 - $1000

bout the program Since 1984, FOCUS St. Louis® has offered this regional orientation program for executives and their spouses or partners who are new to the community, as well as others recently promoted to senior-level positions that would benefit from a greater knowledge of the region. Structure of the program Participants are given rare insight into the community during five fact-filled sessions. The program consists of four evening sessions held at cultural, historical and other significant sites around the region. Featured speakers are outstanding leaders in their fields who influence decisions made in the community.

FOCUS Impact Fellows

Target Audience: Alumni
Average Size: 20 - 30
Tuition: $3500 - $5000

While each of the FOCUS leadership programs exposes participants to a wide range of issues in the region, Impact Fellows is unique in its focus and application of leadership skills. Individuals selected for the program will gain a deeper level of understanding of the selected community issue, meet and work with the area\\\'s top experts and key players, and apply leadership competencies and innovative thinking to move the issue forward. In addition to producing a tangible outcome, project and/or solution, participants will gain considerable training and experience in change management, problem-solving, group dynamics, systems thinking and project management. While the FOCUS Impact Fellows program is new for the St. Louis region, similar programs in other cities have had significant success in facilitating positive and sustainable change on issues ranging from economic development to health to education. This is a one-of-a-kind experience to work alongside your fellow leaders to produce real and meaningful change.

Leadership St. Louis

About the program Founded in 1976, the Leadership St. Louis® (LSL) program is one of the most highly-respected leadership development programs in the nation. The program was built on the belief that the community, just as any business or organization, requires strong leadership to grow and improve. Graduates of the program include CEOs and other corporate senior level executives, business owners, state senators and representatives, mayors, school superintendents and principals, university chancellors and deans,attorneys,and nonprofit executive directors. The common ground under this wide array of participants is a deep and active commitment to community improvement. Structure of the program Seminars enhance self-awareness of leadership approaches and include on-site visits with decision makers that inspire participants to address community challenges. Seminar topics include: Economic Development Education Racism Power and Politics Poverty and Social Services The Criminal Justice System Arts and Culture The Environment

Youth Leadership St. Louis

Target Audience: Youth

Tuition: $500 - $750

Youth Leadership St. Louis (YLSL), a program of FOCUS St. Louis, empowers the region\\\'s youth to become future community leaders. Founded in 1989, YLSL is a program for high school juniors that develops leadership skills, promotes teamwork among diverse groups, and provides a deeper understanding of the St. Louis region. YLSL brings students together from approximately 30 urban, suburban, rural, public, private, and parochial schools from throughout the region, as well as the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri and the Purina PALS program. The students learn how to take leadership roles, appreciate each other\\\'s differences, cooperate, and lead with other students from different backgrounds and experiences. YLSL is the area’s only established interdistrict high school program that is non-competitive in nature. Completion of the YLSL program is an impressive entry on any resume and often an avenue to scholarships. YLSL graduates have an opportunity to do the following: Serve on an allocations panel of the United Way of Greater St. Louis Serve as one of two youth representatives on the FOCUS board of directors for a one-year term Serve on the curriculum development team Structure of the Program YLSL is based on seven leadership objectives· To Inform To Involve To Inspire To Challenge To Empower To Value Diversity
