Celebrating Service: Jessica Hendricks Named 2026 ALP Volunteer of the Year

At the heart of the Association of Leadership Programs is a simple truth: our strength lies in our people. Every connection, conversation, and collaboration is made possible because of the leaders who generously give their time, talents, and heart to this network. During the 2026 ALP National Conference in Omaha, we were proud to recognize one of those exceptional leaders, Jessica Hendricks, as this year's Volunteer of the Year.
Jessica Hendricks serves as Executive Director of Leadership Unlimited in Grand Island, Nebraska, is a Certified Community Leadership Professional, and has served on the ALP Board of Directors. Throughout her years of service to ALP, Jessica has become known for her unwavering commitment to supporting fellow members, strengthening the organization, and saying "yes" whenever help is needed.
A Leader Who Always Shows Up
There are people in every organization who quietly make things happen. They don't seek recognition or applause. They simply raise their hand and ask, "How can I help?"
Jessica is one of those people.
Whether serving on a committee, mentoring a colleague, sharing her expertise, or stepping in when something needs to get done, Jessica consistently leads with generosity, humility, and purpose. Her thoughtful approach, willingness to listen, and genuine care for others have made a lasting impact on ALP and the Community Leadership profession.
As shared during the award presentation, Jessica reminds us that the strongest leaders aren't always the loudest. They are the ones who consistently show up, lift others up, and strengthen their organizations through kindness, generosity, and a servant's heart.
A Lasting Impact on ALP
Jessica's passion for leadership extends well beyond ALP. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Doane University and is a Certified Community Leadership Practitioner. Throughout her career, she has served in numerous leadership roles, including Director of Workforce and Community Development for the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and Community Liaison for Congressman Adrian Smith. She has also been actively involved in organizations including Grand Island Young Professionals, Toastmasters, and the Grand Island Little Theatre.
Her leadership experience has always been rooted in one common goal: helping people and communities thrive.
A Meaningful Milestone
This year's conference carried even greater significance for Jessica as it marked both her final ALP conference in her current role and her final Board of Directors meeting after years of dedicated service.
Following the conference, Jessica reflected on the experience, sharing how meaningful it was to contribute by serving on a Best Practices Panel, presenting Bread and Salt, and connecting with leadership professionals from across the country who share a passion for developing leaders and strengthening communities.
Receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award made the experience even more special.
"This recognition means so much because it comes from an organization and a network of people I admire and respect," Jessica shared. "The relationships, experiences, and opportunities I've gained through ALP have enriched both my professional and personal journey."
>Although she is closing this chapter of her career, Jessica also shared that it is not the end of her commitment to leadership development and community impact. Instead, she looks forward to finding new ways to serve, lead, and support others in the years ahead.
