ALP Ambassador Spotlight: Michelle McInnis, Leadership Southwest Louisiana
At the Association of Leadership Programs (ALP), we are proud to highlight the incredible leaders who contribute to the growth and success of Community Leadership Programs nationwide. We’re excited to feature Michelle McInnis, Senior Vice President at the SWLA Economic Development Alliance, in this month’s Ambassador Spotlight. Michelle’s leadership journey is rooted in community, passion, and service to others.
From Program Alumna to Program Leader
Michelle first experienced the power of Leadership Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) as a participant in the Class of 2013. After joining the Chamber team in 2015, she jumped at the opportunity to lead the program she loved from the inside. Since 2019, she has led Leadership SWLA, blending her personal alumni experience with a deep commitment to growing the region’s next generation of leaders.
Her Chamber-based program has been a cornerstone of the Lake Charles, LA community since 1984, and under Michelle’s leadership, it continues to evolve and thrive.
Stepping Up in Times of Change
The Chamber Southwest Louisiana and its foundation make up the two parts of the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance. Recently, the Chamber entered a season of transformation following the retirement of its longtime president. Michelle was asked to take on additional responsibilities overseeing Chamber Membership, a challenge she’s embraced with enthusiasm and grace. As she helps steer the organization forward, her steady leadership and collaborative spirit are more valuable than ever.
Inspired by Service and a Belief in Community Leadership
Michelle’s passion for leadership development and belief in ALP’s mission made her a natural fit for the ALP Ambassador program. "I believe strongly in Community Leadership Programs and want all of them to be successful," she shared. Michelle started by volunteering on the National Conference planning committee and participating in the Chamber Affinity Group. She has since risen to become Chair-Elect of the ALP Board of Directors.
“When I first became the leader of our program, I immediately turned to ALP for guidance,” she recalled. “The resource library and Facebook group were a huge help.” Now she’s giving back to the community of peers that supported her.
Guided by a Heart for Good
Michelle is guided by the words of John Wesley: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” This philosophy shines through in her leadership and her dedication to serving others.
Beyond the Boardroom
In her downtime, Michelle enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her grandbabies, a reminder that even the busiest leaders make time for what matters most.
