Celebrating Service: Dani Esperanza and Nicole Susdorf Named 2025 ALP Co-Volunteers of the Year

At the heart of the Association of Leadership Programs is a simple truth: our strength lies in our people. Every connection, conversation, and collaboration is possible because of the leaders who give their time, talents, and heart to this network. During the 2025 ALP National Conference in Fort Worth, we were proud to recognize two such individuals, Dani Esperanza and Nicole Susdorf, as this year’s Co-Volunteers of the Year.

Dani Esperanza serves as the Program Director for Leadership Athens County (OH), a program of the Athens County Foundation. Nicole Susdorf serves as Program Director at Leadership Toledo (OH.

“As last year’s Volunteer of the Year, I know firsthand how meaningful this recognition is, not just because of the award, but because it reflects the heart of what ALP is all about: people showing up for one another,” said 2024 honoree Nicole Morristell, who presented this year’s award.

A Dynamic Duo with a Heart for Youth
Together, Nicole and Dani serve as Co-Champions of ALP’s Youth Affinity Group, a growing space for Community Leadership professionals who work with youth-focused programs across the country. Their leadership has helped shape this group into a place of connection, resource-sharing, and support. From coordinating and facilitating calls to creating space for peer dialogue and offering behind-the-scenes encouragement, Nicole and Dani consistently bring insight, compassion, and generosity.

What sets them apart is not just their commitment, but the joy with which they serve.

Leading by Example
Though neither honoree was able to attend the 2025 conference in person, they shared a heartfelt message of thanks via video. Their message reminded us all that impact isn’t defined by position or proximity; it’s defined by presence, care, and follow-through.

Whether you’re a longtime member or just starting to engage with ALP, Nicole and Dani’s work is a shining example of what’s possible when volunteers lead with intention and heart.
