Meet Nikki Morristell, ALP Ambassador

ALP Ambassador Spotlight: Nicole Morristell, Leadership Lackawanna - Scranton, PA

At the Association of Leadership Programs (ALP), we are proud to highlight the incredible leaders who contribute to the growth and success of Community Leadership Programs nationwide. We’re excited to feature Nikki Morristell, Executive Director of Leadership Lackawanna, in this month’s Ambassador Spotlight.

Nikki’s story is one of growth, grit, and a deep-rooted passion for community leadership.

Transforming a Legacy
Since stepping into the Executive Director role in 2008, Nikki has led a remarkable transformation at Leadership Lackawanna. Over the past 17 years, and in partnership with a dedicated team of alumni, volunteers, and board members, she has expanded the organization’s programs from two offerings to six, added staff, quadrupled the operating budget, launched new committees, re-engaged alumni, and created impactful events and fundraisers. Her leadership has not only strengthened the organization but also redefined its reach and relevance across northeastern Pennsylvania.

Nikki’s early career with the local Girl Scouts helped shape her servant leadership style. A proud 2002 graduate of Elizabethtown College, she has since earned recognition across the region and the country for her dedication to leadership development. Most recently, she was honored as ALP’s inaugural Volunteer of the Year at the 2024 ALP National Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.

Achieving a Bucket-List Goal
Among her many accomplishments, Nikki is especially proud of becoming a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. This was a long-held dream that she brought to life with both personal determination and professional purpose. This certification has not only advanced her skill set but also added tremendous value to the Leadership Lackawanna experience.

A Natural ALP Ambassador
With strengths like WOO (Winning Others Over) and Communication, it’s no surprise Nikki thrives as an ALP Ambassador. Her love for leadership and for people runs deep.
“Volunteerism has always been a core value of mine, instilled in me by my mother. When you really like something, it’s easy to get involved, help out, and make a difference,” Nikki shares. “Being an Ambassador is a rewarding experience, and I know I’m helping make a difference—all while promoting and growing ALP.”

Whether she’s networking at conferences, serving on a committee, or inspiring peers across Pennsylvania and beyond, Nikki brings infectious energy and a genuine desire to lift others.

Outside and In Balance
When Nikki’s not cultivating community leaders, she’s embracing the great outdoors with her family. She enjoys hiking mountain trails, carving ski slopes, casting a line, or kicking up dust on a quad. Whether it's in the woods or on the water, nature is where she feels most grounded and at peace.
