ALP Ambassador Spotlight: Jessi McQuerrey, Leadership Iowa
At the Association of Leadership Programs (ALP), we are proud to highlight the incredible leaders who contribute to the growth and success of Community Leadership Programs nationwide. This month, we’re excited to spotlight Jessi McQuerrey, Director of Programs at the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation, whose dedication to leadership development has made a lasting impact in Iowa and beyond.
A Passion for Leadership Development
Jessi’s journey into leadership programming began at a young age - first as a participant and then as a facilitator eager to create meaningful opportunities for others. Though she didn’t initially realize that her passion could turn into a fulfilling career, her path soon led her to higher education and eventually to the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation, where she has been making a difference since 2014.
As Director of Programs, Jessi oversees three statewide leadership initiatives: Business Horizons, Leadership Iowa University, and Leadership Iowa. These programs empower students and professionals alike, fostering leadership skills that benefit individuals, businesses, and communities across the state.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
This March, Jessi is celebrating 11 years of service with the ABI Foundation - a milestone that highlights the depth of her impact on Iowa’s leadership landscape. Over the years, she has played a key role in shaping experiences that have reached countless individuals, showcased numerous communities and businesses, and furthered initiatives like advancing career and technical education advocacy across Iowa.
Commitment to ALP and Leadership Growth
Jessi became an ALP Ambassador because she deeply believes in the power of leadership programs to strengthen communities. Iowa is home to a rich network of leadership initiatives, and she is passionate about connecting, elevating, and amplifying their collective impact on a local, state, and national level.
Her involvement with ALP has provided her with valuable connections and insights, allowing her to exchange ideas and best practices with leadership professionals across the country. She describes the ALP community as a dynamic space where innovation thrives, and members continuously inspire one another.

Beyond the Statewide Classroom
When she’s not championing leadership programs, Jessi enjoys volunteering with organizations focused on leadership and education. She also treasures time spent with her husband, K.J., and their adopted rat terrier, Jack. Whether she’s exploring local shops and restaurants in West Des Moines or enjoying the outdoors, she embraces every moment of connection and community.
