About the Association of Leadership Programs
The Association of Leadership Programs (ALP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization dedicated to strengthening and sustaining Community Leadership Programs (CLPs). Through professional development, peer-to-peer learning, and sector-wide support, ALP empowers CLPs to be catalysts for thriving, resilient communities.

Founded in 2010, ALP now supports nearly 300 leadership programs across the United States and beyond. Its diverse membership includes stand-alone organizations, programs affiliated with Chambers of Commerce and economic development groups, as well as those connected to colleges and universities. Despite their varied structures, all ALP members share a common goal: to develop civic-minded individuals who lead through volunteerism, board service, thought leadership, and engaged citizenship.

At the heart of ALP’s mission is the belief that authentic community leadership means seeing the whole picture—approaching challenges, opportunities, and decisions with the well-being of the entire community in mind. ALP is the only organization of its kind offering dedicated sector support, networking, and peer learning for Community Leadership Programs—helping them grow, adapt, and lead change in communities of every size.
